The 18-year-old Oakwood High School graduate has been invited to play in the prestigious North and South Amateur Championship at Pinehurst, N.C., which begins July 17. Jandel, who played in the Rolex Junior Girls Championship in Park City, Utah, last week, will compete this week in the 83rd Women's Ohio State Golf Association Championship at Riviera Country Club in Dublin. After a Monday strokeplay qualifying round, match play begins Tuesday. Jandel will attempt to qualify July 10 at the Cincinnati Country Club for the U.S. Women's Amateur, which will be Aug. 7-13 at Pumpkin Ridge in North Plains, Ore. After playing in the North and South Amateur, Jandel is scheduled to play in the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship July 24-27 in Malvern, Pa., near Philadelphia. Like last week's event in Park City, it's one of 10 American Junior Golf Association invitationals. - Two former Ladies Professional Golf Association tour regulars from the Dayton area have qualified for the U.S. Women's Open June 29-July 2 at the Newport (R.I.) Jim Popa, executive director of the Ohio Golf Association, said, "These conditions are as good as we've seen all year -- the greens, the collars, the tees and the fairways." Popa remembered that Greene had ryegrass fairways when the OGA held the Mid-Amateur at Greene in 1998. The course was converted to bentgrass after 2001.
